[Scene opens in the living room. Amber’s pacing, Anthony’s sitting on the couch looking confused but calm.]
Amber: You know, Anthony… I been thinkin’.
Anthony: Uh oh. That tone right there sound like somethin’ serious. What’s up, babe?
Amber: Don’t “what’s up” me right now. I’m serious. I been prayin’, thinkin’, cryin’… and I came to a decision.
Anthony: (leans forward) A decision? About what?
Amber: About David.
Anthony: (takes a breath) Amber… we already been through that.
Amber: No, we ain’t. You shut that door too quick. I want him back, Anthony. I want David home with us.
Anthony: Baby, last time we tried that, you remember what happened—
Amber: Oh, I remember exactly what happened! Shayla happened! That’s what went wrong!
Anthony: (sighs) Amber—
Amber: Don’t “Amber” me, Anthony. You wanna talk about what went wrong? It wasn’t the system. It wasn’t no paperwork. It was you slippin’ back to Shayla like she had the only set of keys to your soul!
Anthony: Babe, that was a long time ago! I already told you, I’m done with Shayla.
Amber: Good. Because if you ain’t planning on sleepin’ with her again, then let’s go get David back.
Anthony: (blinks) Wait… that’s your condition?
Amber: My confirmation. If you done with her—really done—then what’s stoppin’ us?
Anthony: (rubs his head) Amber, you know I love that boy. But we gotta be careful. Last time it turned into a mess—
Amber: The mess wasn’t David’s fault! That boy is innocent! He belongs here. With us. You know it too.
Anthony: (quiet) He does…
Amber: Then why you hesitating? Look at me, Anthony. Tell me right now—you done with Shayla?
Anthony: (pauses) I’m done.
Amber: Say it again.
Anthony: I’m done with Shayla.
Amber: (nods slowly) Good. Then let’s move. Because I can’t sleep knowing that baby’s out there—no stability, no love, no home. You know what that feels like. I know what that feels like. We can break that cycle right now.
Anthony: (softly) You really believe we can do this again?
Amber: I don’t just believe it, I feel it. It’s like God’s been holding David for us… waiting for us to finally get right.
Anthony: (smiles a little) You really been thinkin’ about this, huh?
Amber: Every night. You see me smile, laugh, cook dinner—but I’m dying inside not having him here. I got all this love built up and nowhere to put it.
Anthony: (reaches for her hand) You really want this, huh?
Amber: No, Anthony. I need this. This—us, him—it’s our second chance. And I promise, if you’re really done with Shayla… everything else gon’ fall right into place.
Anthony: (after a pause) Alright. Whatever my wife wants.
Amber: (eyes widen) Wait… you serious?
Anthony: Yeah. We’ll get David back. Together.
Amber: (smiles, teary-eyed) Thank you, baby. You don’t know what that means to me.
Anthony: (grins) Just don’t go pickin’ fights with Shayla at the courthouse.
Amber: (smirks) Only if she tries somethin’.
[They share a tense but hopeful look — love, regret, and determination mixing in the air.]
