Shayla To Anthony: You’re a Dead Beat Daddy—Just Like Your Father! 😡
When Shayla Calls Anthony a Dead Beat Daddy!
[Inside Shayla’s living room. Anthony walks in, looking concerned.]
Anthony: Where’s Scott?
Shayla: (glares) You would know if you weren’t such a dead beat father.
Anthony: Shayla, don’t start with that. I’m not a dead beat.
Shayla: (snaps) Really? Most dead beats don’t know where their kids are. That’s normal for you, huh?
Anthony: Don’t do that. Where is Kai?
Shayla: Where’s Kai? Wow. You missed his first steps, Anthony. His first steps! Do you understand that? That was a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Anthony: (sighs, frustrated) I wasn’t chasing no woman, Shayla. I had business—
Shayla: (cuts him off) Business? Is Amber business? Does Amber got your mind so twisted that you would abandon your own son?
Anthony: I’m not abandoning my son! Don’t put that on me.
Shayla: (throws her hands up) Wow. You really don’t hear yourself. You’re a dead beat. You are the definition of a dead beat, Anthony.
Anthony: (steps forward, stern) I ain’t no dead beat. I take care of my son. Don’t ever say that about me.
Shayla: (shakes her head, voice rising) You are a dead beat if I’ve ever seen one. You’ll never get that time back. You’ll never see Kai walk for the first time again. That moment is gone, Anthony. And why? Because you chasing behind somebody else instead of being here for your family.
Anthony: Shayla, don’t act like I don’t care. Don’t act like I don’t provide.
Shayla: Provide? (laughs bitterly) You throw money, but you don’t give time. You’re an absent father. The world sees you as some big businessman, but I know the truth. You don’t even take care of your own blood.
Anthony: (angry, voice cracking) You know what? I don’t even know why I go through this with you.
Shayla: (points at him) Because it’s the truth, Anthony. You’re a dead beat. Just like your father.
Anthony: (taken aback) Don’t you bring my father into this.
Shayla: Oh, I will. Because it must run in your bloodline. Not showing up when you’re needed. Walking out when things get tough. That’s exactly what you’re doing to Kai.
Anthony: (clenches fists) I’m nothing like my father.
Shayla: (cold, eyes narrowing) I can’t tell. Because when I look at you, I see him. And it breaks me that Kai gotta grow up with the same disappointment I saw in my own house.
Anthony: (voice softens) Shayla… I’m not turning my back on my son.
Shayla: Then prove it. Because right now? You’d rather fight for a marriage that’s a dumpster fire than fight to be here for your own blood. And that… that makes you a dead beat.
[Silence. Anthony looks torn, guilt all over his face. Shayla turns away, holding back tears. The weight of her words lingers.]
