INT. WAYNE’S LIVING ROOM — DAY

Shayla stands near the doorway, arms folded tight across her chest, her voice already cracked with emotion.

SHAYLA:
I just… I can’t keep doing this, Wayne. I really can’t. One minute Anthony’s telling me I’m his peace… the next, I find out he’s right back with Amber. Like, how am I supposed to process that?

WAYNE (calm but serious):
I feel you. That’s heavy.

SHAYLA:
Heavy? It’s suffocating. I been praying, crying, trying to hold it together for Kai. And now I feel like a fool. Again.

WAYNE:
Look, I ain’t gonna lie to you, Shayla. That man got you out here hurtin'. But—

SHAYLA (cutting him off):
Don’t say “but,” Wayne. Please don’t. Everybody got a “but.” Everybody got advice when they not the one sittin’ up at night tryna explain to their baby why Daddy not home.

WAYNE (firmly):
You done?

SHAYLA (stunned):
What?

WAYNE:
I said, are you done?

SHAYLA (angry):
Excuse me?

WAYNE (straightforward):
'Cause real talk — God didn’t put you here, Shayla. YOU did.

SHAYLA (offended):
Wow. That’s real easy for you to say. You ain’t the one that believed in a man who fed you dreams just to toss you in the fire.

WAYNE:
Nah, you right. I’m not. But you knew who Anthony was from the jump. You saw the red flags, and you kept painting 'em white. And now you mad they still red?

SHAYLA (defensive):

I was just trying to believe in something! I wanted a family! I wanted to do this the right way this time!

WAYNE:
And I respect that. But don’t put that on God like He threw you into this mess. You walked into it with your eyes wide open — now you crying like He set the trap.

SHAYLA (tearing up):
I didn’t sign up to do this alone, Wayne…

WAYNE (softens):
You’re not alone. You got Kai. You got strength you don’t even know about. And yeah, you got God — but He ain’t gon’ carry you outta a place you keep running back into.

SHAYLA (whispers):
So what now?

WAYNE:
Now… you stop waiting for Anthony to be something he ain’t. You stop making excuses for a man who left you holding everything. And you start building for you and your son. Period.

SHAYLA (quiet, defeated):
Why does doing the right thing feel so hard?

WAYNE:
'Cause healing hurts before it helps. But you will get through it. You just gotta stop looking for your healing in the same place that broke you.

SHAYLA:
...I don’t even know how to start.

WAYNE:
By not going back. That’s step one.
