INT. AMBER’S LIVING ROOM – EVENING

Anthony walks in looking conflicted. Amber, curled up on the couch with a blanket, eyes him curiously.

Amber:
Hey babe… You okay?

Anthony:
Yeah. Just got back from the gym. Tried to clear my head a bit.

Amber (sniffs playfully):
Mmhm. You smell like you ran away from something.

Anthony (half-smiling):
Maybe I did.

Amber (sits up):
Okay, what’s going on? Something's off.

Anthony (sighs):
You remember last night… when you asked me about Shayla and Kai?

Amber:
Yeah. You brushed it off like it wasn’t nothin'.

Anthony:
Well… I wasn’t all the way truthful. Earlier that day, Shayla and I had a big blow-up.

Amber (tenses):
About what?

Anthony:
She said she didn’t want Kai around you anymore. That I shouldn’t bring him here.

Amber (pause):
Wow… Okay.

Anthony:
I told her you’ve changed… that you’re trying. That God’s working on you. But she didn’t wanna hear it.

Amber:
Of course not. She never wanted to share. Not her child, not you.

Anthony:
It just hit me. All the wrong I’ve done… and now Kai’s paying the price.

Amber (softly):
And what about me, Anthony?

Anthony (confused):
What you mean?

Amber:
I’m still healing. And every time Shayla throws these punches from the side… it reopens wounds that ain't even scabbed yet.

Anthony:
I know, and I hate that. I really do.

Amber:
But you let her shake you. And when she shakes you, you shake me. That’s not fair.

Anthony (nods):

Amber:
So what are we gonna do about this?

Anthony:
I gotta get control. Shayla’s not in charge of my emotions. Or yours. Kai’s our life now… not just hers.

Amber:

Anthony (smiles):

Amber (half-laughs):

You sure you can handle fresh air right now? It might carry more drama.

Anthony:

Amber (softly):

Anthony:

(Just then, Anthony’s phone buzzes. He checks it. His face goes pale.)

Amber:
What? Who is it?

Anthony (voice tight):
It’s Shayla.

Amber (crossing arms):
Of course it is. What now?

Anthony (reading):
“She’s changing Kai’s last name… to Arby’s.”

Amber:
Wait… WHAT?

(Silence hangs heavy. Amber’s face hardens as she stares at Anthony.)

Amber:
