INT. AMBER’S KITCHEN – EARLY MORNING
Amber walks out in her robe, rubbing her eyes. The smell of bacon and pancakes fills the air. She freezes when she sees Anthony at the stove.
AMBER:
Anthony… What are you doing?
ANTHONY: (smiles gently)
Good morning. I figured if you weren’t gonna say yes to dinner… I’d try breakfast instead.
AMBER:
You used the spare key?
ANTHONY:
Yeah. Still had it… wasn’t sure if I should. But then again, wasn’t sure how else to reach you.
Amber folds her arms, leaning against the counter, watching him flip pancakes.
AMBER:
You know we’re not… in that place anymore.
ANTHONY:
Maybe not. But I still know how you like your eggs — soft scrambled, little bit of cheese, no salt. That count for something?
AMBER: (softly)
It does… but it’s not enough, Anthony.
ANTHONY: (sighs)
I know. But I ain’t trying to fix everything with a plate of food. I’m just… showing up. One more time.
Amber’s voice breaks just slightly.
AMBER:
You should’ve shown up when I was crying myself to sleep. When I needed more than “I’m busy” or “next week.”
You’re showing up now... when I’ve already signed the papers.
ANTHONY: (turns to face her)
I know I failed you, Amber. I know I disappeared when I should’ve leaned in. But cooking here this morning... it ain’t about undoing the past. It’s about fighting for a future — if there’s even a chance left.
He hands her a plate with heart-shaped pancakes. Her lip trembles, caught between anger and emotion.
AMBER:
Why now? Why not months ago when I begged you to see me?
ANTHONY:
Because I was stupid. Scared. And selfish. I thought I had more time. But when you didn’t answer my text last week… something in me panicked. I realized… I’ve already lost too much.
There’s a long silence. Amber sits down, staring at the plate.
AMBER: (quietly)
You still love me?
ANTHONY: (walks over slowly)
Ain’t a day I stopped.
AMBER: (voice cracking)
Then why does it feel like I had to stop loving you just to protect myself?
ANTHONY:
Maybe… maybe this breakfast ain’t just for you. Maybe it’s me learning how to love you the right way. No words. Just action.
Amber reaches for a fork but pauses, looking up.
AMBER:
One breakfast don’t fix everything, Anthony.
ANTHONY:
I know. But maybe… it’s enough to start over. One bite at a time.
Their eyes lock. A silence filled with questions. But also a flicker of something else…
AMBER: (softly)
We’ll see.
