Piarry: [opening the door] Shayla? Hey… what’s going on? You okay?

Shayla: [voice trembling] I just… I just needed to see if Anthony was here.

Piarry: No, he hasn’t been here in a few days. Come in. Come here. Sit down. Talk to me. What's wrong? Is Kai okay?

Shayla: [sits slowly, eyes filled with tears] Kai’s fine… it’s me. I don’t even know why I’m here. I just… I don’t have anyone else to talk to.

Piarry: Shayla… you're scaring me. What happened?

Shayla: [whispers] Anthony got back with Amber.

Piarry: What? What do you mean he got back with her?

Shayla: I went over there… to Amber’s house. He was there. On her couch. And he looked me in the eye and told me… he wants to be with her.

Piarry: [softly gasps] No… no way. He told you that?

Shayla: [nodding slowly] He said he doesn’t want us anymore. That everything he promised me—a family, a home, a future—it was all a lie. He sold me a dream, Piarry.

Piarry: I’m so sorry, girl… I swear, I thought he was serious about you.

Shayla: [voice cracking] He told me he wanted to marry me. Said he wanted to raise our son together. I believed him… I gave him everything.

Piarry: That’s not your fault. You loved him. You trusted him.

Shayla: [tears streaming] I haven’t eaten in two days. I can’t sleep. I can’t breathe without him. It’s like I’m dead inside.

Piarry: Don’t say that, Shayla. Please don’t say that.

Shayla: [shaking her head] No, you don’t understand. I don’t want to do this anymore. I don’t want to live like this. It hurts too much. I’m tired, Piarry… I’m tired of being hurt.

Piarry: [grabbing her hands] Don’t talk like that! Don’t you ever say that again! You have Kai. You have a whole life ahead of you. Don’t let a man who can’t see your worth take that away from you.

Shayla: But I can’t do this without him. I need him.

Piarry: No, Shayla. You think you need him. But the truth is, you’ve been strong this whole time—raising your son, holding yourself together through all this pain. You are more than this heartbreak.

Shayla: [sobbing] I don’t feel strong.

Shayla: [whispers] I just want the pain to stop.

Piarry: It will. I promise it will. But you have to stay. For Kai. For yourself. For the future that’s still waiting on you.

Shayla: [sniffles] Okay… okay. I’ll try.

Piarry: That’s all I ask. One day at a time, okay? Let me drive you home.
